Amazing 'Bee Mural' gifted to the community of Meningie
South Australia’s largest beekeeping business, Coorong Apiaries which is family-owned and operated by Bill and Natalie Brown, has recently gifted the Meningie community with an amazing 40m2 ‘bee mural’ featuring amazing honey bees producing an abundance of honey from the nectar and pollen they have collected from a flowering gum tree. Two generations of beekeepers are also featured, showing how important it is for beekeeping knowledge to be passed from one generation to the next so that the industry can be sustained.
Comments from Bill Brown, owner of Coorong Apiaries
Commenting on the opening of the mural Bill Brown said, ‘I have been a beekeeper since I was 12 starting with one hive and dreaming of one day owning 50 hives and a small hobby farm in Meningie. Roll on to 2024 and we now operate 4,000 hives and proudly provide employment for up to 14 local workers. Our ‘bee mural’ is our family’s gift to a community which has been our home for the last 15 years and has been so supportive of our business. We hope it will bring a lot of people pleasure and help to promote the amazing honey bee and the beekeeping industry generally’.
Location
The ‘Bee Mural’ is located at the Coorong Apiaries depot, 109 Princes Highway, Meningie and has already attracted fantastic positive feedback from community members. It is hoped that it will become a significant tourist attraction for the town, just like a silo art project. In the near future, tourists will also be able to buy honey and other honey products from the site 24/7 and engage in educational activities, which will be an exciting tourism development for the township of Meningie.
About Coorong Gold Honey
Everyone who tastes Coorong Apiaries honey, marketed under the brand name of Coorong Gold, loves its colour and wonderful depth of flavour, which is not surprising given it is 100% natural and pure and sourced from the local, pristine natural environment of the Coorong region. Most consumers would not be aware that 8000 tons of honey is imported into Australia from other countries each year and used to blend with other bulk Australian honey to put on supermarket shelves. In contrast, the providence of all honey sold under the Coorong Honey label is 100% guaranteed.
